A trip to the beach calls for some cold beer, and there’s no better place to explore Rhode Island’s craft beer scene than in coastal Narragansett. The town’s ubiquitous namesake lager is no longer made in Rhode Island, but a recent campaign aims to bring the brewery back to its home state. Feel free to order up a ‘Gansett tallboy, you know, to help them fundraise the endeavor. In the meantime, check out beers from these local craft breweries at our favorite spots around Narragansett:

Grey Sail Brewing
This microwbrewery’s double IPA Captain’s Daughter is the most sought after, but you’re more likely to find the Flagship cream ale or the Flying Jenny extra pale ale on tap at Charlie O’s Tavern. Charlie’s has over 30 draft beers, many of them local, so you’re sure to find something you like. If you’re interested in visiting Grey Sail, the brewery is a a 40-minute drive from The Break and offers brewery tours and tastings in the tap room.

Revival Brewing Company
From Sean Larkin, the former brewmaster at Trinity Brewhouse in Providence, and his friend and homebrewer Owen Johnson comes Revival, making a wide variety of beers since its start in 2010. You’ll find two styles on tap at Chair 5, our signature on-site restaurant — the Zeppelin Hefeweizen Ale and the White Electric Coffee Stout, brewed with beans from Providence’s New Harvest Coffee Roasters.

Foolproof Brewing Company
This Pawtucket-based brewery makes styles of beer that go well with activities, what they call “experienced-based brewing.” Backyard IPA is made for enjoying while barbecuing, and Raincloud is a robust porter to cozy up with on a rainy day. Find these playfully-named brews at Mews Tavern in neighboring Wakefield, where the Queen of the Yahd, a raspberry IPA, is available on tap. The raspberry pureé added during the brewing process gives the beer a subtle tart flavor, while the “stupid” amount of hops deliver characteristic IPA tropical fruitiness. If that doesn’t do it for you, Mews has 68 other craft brews available for you to choose from.
