Every beach has a hub, that central spot where everyone just knows to meet up without having to make plans in advance. On Narragansett Beach, that’s the lifeguard chair 5. So when we were Break-storming names for the hotel’s signature restaurant, Chair 5 felt like a natural fit. Chef Basil Yu has blended his background in fine dining (he comes to us from the Muse at the Vanderbilt Grace in Newport) with The Break’s surfer vibe to present an elevated yet casual beach-inspired bistro. Opening to the public on June 25th, you can check out a sample menu here.

Chair 5 Hours

  • Open 7 days. Walk-ins only, no reservations. You’re on beach time now.
  • Dinner 5:00-10:00pm.
  • Stay tuned for Lunch and Rooftop opening dates.

Not only is Chef Yu a talent in the kitchen, but he’s got some chops behind the bar, too. Together with his team, he developed a line-up of breezy beverages to compliment his hand-crafted, locally sourced, and seasonally inspired menus. In keeping with hotel’s heritage, all of the custom cocktails are named after local surf spots. After a long surf session, we can easily image hanging up our board for the day and enjoying a Breachway on the rooftop at Chair 5. The views of the sunset, ocean, and Newport’s Pell Bridge are the postcard-perfect way to end the day.
